Work scheule
The work is going to start.
At first I made a plan.
- Idea ✅
- Website ✅
- Promo ✅
- Articles ✅
Ok this was already done. How does it continue?
My plan also included a time schedule.
Tasks:
My working schedule

When the articles arrived, I immediately started to read them. I was curious, what people were going to write, to contribute. Wonderful, touching stories, really life changing or just well wishes.
Everything had its reason.
I set up a list with names and mail addys, just to be able to find everything again, when it was needed. Later on there would be a correction phase.
The articles were send in different formats, but I was able to convert all to .docx. Works well with the Mac porgram „Pages“. I usually keep the original articles, also in my professional, payed work, as well as the incoming and outgoing pdf-files of the correction phase. Just in case, if problems might occur.
I also have a folder for customers:

And I lable (with color) all folders differently, for easy finiding.
The now called folder „Freigabe“ (approval) was the one for colecting all articles, including secondary folders with the names of the authors with text files, pictures (orignal) and pictures converted to gray scale.
Folder book – the layouted fieles with sequence number andd name and also the folder for outgoing corrections and incomming corrections.
How did I establish the sequence?
You could have set up a fantastic, interesting and maybe alsp complecated system to establish the sequence of the articles in the book. Raffeling the position or whatever!
I acted somewhat pragmatic: first in, first out.
The article in the pole position of the book, is the one of the very first arriving in my mail! Thank you!
My own one made it to the last positon, just because I wrote it, while producing the rest of the book.
Meanwhile it was christmas eve and I got a lot of time. Although the family consists of four heads and 12 leg, the furry boys (cats) had been on a valerian high and the best son did his thing at his computer.
The 100th Christmas special? Nope, not really. So why not doing a layout?
Fonts
I already made up my mind about the fonts I wanted to use.
For the body text, the main text of the book, I wanted to use Garamond. Garamond is a really old font. The original version was developed in the 16th century by a French man Claude Garamond
A former co worker, a trained typesetter, used to say, that fonts like Garamond, Times or Baskerville would have so funny little hooks at the sides.
Those hooks are calle Serifs and if you have a kind of big amount of text, like it happens in a book, it is much easier to stay on track while reading!
Just have a look at your own library. Novels usually use serif fonts.
The font used is often listed in the imprint (at the front of the book, but recently it has sometimes been included at the back as well).
Scientific texts usually use fonts that are called San serif. As the name says: they look very clean and clear.
Or you just open your favorite word processing program. There is always a default font. Always!
Some people use to call it: „standard font“. But there is no such thing! It is just a default, otherwise the program won’t work.
Word used for quite a while Calibri as default, other programs Arial or similar. These are all sans serif fonts.
I could go on and on about fonts. I just love them and the subject.
Ok.
For our project I need three different fonts:
- one for headline H1 – firstlevel headline
- one for headline H2 and H3 – second and third level headline depending on the text
- body font
which will also be used for captions,
strong oder italic
and for running title 2 - a script for running title 1
author signatures – if they won’t have send a signature picture
congratulations within the text

Body text = Garamond
H1–H3 I wanted to use Finlandica, a font which is used for official stuff in Finland!
